Xender for Android: setup, transfer and troubleshoot

Xender for Android is the original flagship version of the file transfer app — everything from photos and 4K videos to installed apps and entire WhatsApp folders can move between two phones wirelessly in seconds. This guide covers installing Xender for Android, pairing two phones, sending to iPhone or PC, and fixing the three or four things that commonly go wrong.

Transfer files between two Android phones in thirty seconds

The core workflow for Xender for Android hasn't changed much in years. Install, open, pair, send. The app does almost no configuration — you don't create an account, you don't log in, you don't pick a server. Two taps on the sender, one on the receiver, and the transfer begins.

Install
Get Xender for Android from Google Play (fastest) or grab the signed APK directly if Play isn't available on your device.
Grant Permissions
Open the app. Approve storage access (to read/write files) and local network access (so phones can discover each other on Wi-Fi).
Pair Phones
Sender taps Send. Receiver taps Receive. The app creates a direct Wi-Fi link automatically — no Bluetooth, no password.
Pick & Send
Select any combination of photos, videos, apps, documents or folders. Transfer runs at up to 40 MB/s until finished.

Two ways to install Xender for Android

For most users, the Play Store route is simplest and gives automatic updates. If your device doesn't ship with Google Play (Huawei phones without GMS, de-Googled Android, certain work profiles), the sideloaded Xender APK delivers the same app with no Google dependencies.

Option 01 · Recommended
From Google Play
Search Xender on Google Play and tap Install. 25 MB download. Auto-updates enabled by default. This is the route for standard Android phones in 2026.

Option 02 · Sideload
From APK
For Huawei, F-Droid-only builds, or regions without Play. Download the signed APK, enable Install unknown apps in settings, tap the file to install.

Send from Xender for Android to iPhone, PC and Mac

Once Xender for Android is installed, the same workflow sends files to any other platform. The app picks a platform-specific pairing mode automatically — QR code to PC, direct Wi-Fi to another phone, local network handoff to iPhone.

Android → Android: both devices run the app, one taps Send, the other taps Receive. Transfers peak at 40 MB/s on Wi-Fi 6 hardware.

Android → iPhone: install Xender on iPhone too (from the App Store). On the iPhone, iOS will prompt for local-network permission the first time — approve it. Back on the Android phone, tap Send → pick iOS as the target platform. The iPhone appears in the device list within two seconds.

Android → PC: open web.xender.com in any browser on the computer. In the Android app, tap Connect PC and scan the QR code shown in the browser. Files then move in either direction inside the browser tab. See the Xender for PC guide for the full walkthrough.

Android → Mac: identical to the PC flow — the Mac uses the browser-based client, since there is no native Mac installer.

Why Xender for Android isn't working — and how to fix it

Failed transfers with Xender for Android almost always trace back to one of five causes. Work through the list; one of them will solve it.

ISSUE · 01
App can't see the other phoneWi-Fi is off on one device, or the two phones are on different Wi-Fi networks (home vs guest, 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz). Turn Wi-Fi on both phones and connect them to the same SSID, or use the built-in hotspot mode so one phone creates a network for the other.
ISSUE · 02
Transfer stalls at X%Battery saver killed the app's process, or the screen turned off mid-transfer. Disable battery optimization for Xender in Settings → Apps → Xender → Battery → Unrestricted, and keep the screen on during large transfers.
ISSUE · 03
Slow transfer (under 5 MB/s)Older phone with an 802.11n Wi-Fi chip on one side of the pair. Nothing the app can fix — the radio is the ceiling. Connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi instead of 2.4 GHz if both devices support it.
ISSUE · 04
VPN interferenceAn active VPN on either device breaks LAN discovery. Disable the VPN during pairing; re-enable it afterward if needed. Files never leave the local network anyway, so there's no privacy cost to toggling VPN off.
ISSUE · 05
Storage permission deniedOn Android 11+, the app needs All files access for some file types. Grant it in Settings → Apps → Xender → Permissions → Files and media → Allow management of all files.

Xender for Android — common questions

How do I use Xender for Android to transfer between two phones?
Install Xender for Android on both phones. On the sending device, tap Send and select the files. On the receiving device, tap Receive. The app creates a direct Wi-Fi link in under six seconds — no Bluetooth pairing, no router needed.
How do I use Xender on iPhone from an Android phone?
Install the app on both platforms: Xender for Android from Google Play, Xender for iOS from the App Store. On iPhone, grant local network permission the first time. On the Android phone, tap Send → iOS. The iPhone opens the app and taps Receive. Files transfer the same way as Android-to-Android.
Why isn't Xender working on my Android phone?
The most common cause is that Wi-Fi is off on one device. Xender for Android needs Wi-Fi enabled (even if not connected to a network) to create the direct link. Second most common: battery-saver mode killing the app's background process. Third: an active VPN blocking LAN discovery.
Does Xender for Android need internet?
No. Xender for Android creates its own local Wi-Fi hotspot between devices. You can transfer on airplanes, in basements, at festivals — anywhere without internet or cell coverage.
Where do files I receive in Xender end up?
Received files land in Android storage under /storage/emulated/0/Download/Xender/. The app organizes them by type into subfolders (photos, videos, audio, documents, apps). You can also open any received file directly from inside the app's transfer history.
Can Xender for Android transfer installed apps to another phone?
Yes. The app can extract your installed Android apps as APK files and send them to another phone. Useful when setting up a new phone or when the Play Store version isn't available in a region. The receiver installs the APK the same way they would any other Android package.
Is Xender for Android faster than Bluetooth?
Yes — roughly 150 to 200 times faster. Bluetooth 5.0 caps around 0.2 MB/s for file transfer. Xender for Android runs at up to 40 MB/s over direct Wi-Fi, meaning a 1 GB video that takes 90 minutes over Bluetooth finishes in under 30 seconds.
How do I install Xender for Android without Google Play?
Download the Xender APK from a trusted source, enable Install unknown apps for your browser in Android Settings, then tap the APK file to install. This is the standard path for Huawei phones, custom ROMs, and regions where Google Play is unavailable.
Can Xender for Android transfer my WhatsApp backup?
Yes. The app can browse and select the entire WhatsApp folder (/storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/) and move it to another phone. This is the fastest way to migrate WhatsApp without using Google Drive or paid cloud solutions. Transfer both the Databases and Media subfolders.
Does Xender for Android support transferring to a PC?
Yes. Open web.xender.com on the computer, tap Connect PC in the Android app, and scan the QR code. The browser on the PC becomes a transfer target without installing anything. See the Xender for PC guide for the full walkthrough.
Does Xender for Android drain my phone's battery?
Only during active transfers. In the background, the app is fully idle — no listeners, no location tracking, no telemetry. You can leave it installed indefinitely without noticing a battery hit.
Can I send files to multiple Android phones at once with Xender?
Yes. Group mode lets up to four receivers connect to one sender. Tap Create Group on the sender; each receiver taps Join Group. The same file hits all four phones simultaneously, which is useful for sharing photos with a group or pushing an installer to multiple devices.
